Christian Wood signs a 2-year contract with the Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers today officially announced the signing of forward/center Christian Wood. The announcement was made by Lakers Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka.

Christian Wood most recently played for the Dallas Mavericks in 2022-23, making 67 appearances (17 starts) and averaging 25.9 minutes per game, contributing 16.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 caps while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 37.6 percent from three-point range. Last season, he scored in double figures 12 times in 54 games, including 25 games with 20 or more points. Additionally, Wood blocked at least one opponent's shot in 42 games last season, including multiple blocks in 17 games, and even blocked a season-high five shots in two games.

Currently 27 years old, Christian Wood has played for multiple teams in the NBA, including Dallas, Houston (2020-22 season), Detroit (2019-20 season), New Orleans (2018-19 season), Milwaukee (2018-19 season), Charlotte (2016-17 season), and Philadelphia (2015-16 season), totaling seven seasons with these seven teams for seven seasons. He has made 289 career appearances (including 139 starts), averaging 24.2 minutes per game, contributing 14.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists on 51.8 percent shooting from the field and 37.9 percent from three-point range.

Christian Wood played collegiately at UNLV for two seasons (2013-15), totaling 63 appearances (with 34 starts) and averaging 23.3 minutes per game, contributing 10.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.9 caps.

After signing with the Lakers, Wood tweeted, "It's always been my dream to be a Laker."

The signing is a major reinforcement for the Los Angeles Lakers, especially since they already have LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It's also the fifth major signing for the Lakers this summer, as they also previously signed Jaxon Hayes, Taurian Prince, Gabe Vincent, and Cam Reddish, while also retaining free agents D'Angelo Russell, Austin Reeves, and Rui Hachimura. The signings will make up for the Lakers' shortcomings at center last season and improve the team's interior depth.
